Healing Garden

The Healing Garden at Baltimore Washington Medical Center is a serene and beautifully landscaped spot that patients, visitors and employees enjoy year-round.

"I hope my grandma is ok. This garden makes me think of heaven." -Anonymous Healing Garden Journal Entry

Located behind the Tate Cancer Center, the garden features hillside vistas, a winding stream, benches and a rectangular reflecting pool. The garden provides a convenient place for patients and their families to relax, meditate or just take a break from treatment. Our healing garden was made possible through a generous challenge grant from the TKF Foundation.

The garden walkway includes hundreds of bricks inscribed with inspirational messages or the names of patients or donors. Garden visitors enjoy strolling through, admiring the landscaping, looking for a friend or family member's name on one of the inscribed bricks, sitting on a garden bench, and writing thoughts into a community journal.

An inscribed brick may be obtained with a $1,000 gift or pledge to the Baltimore Washington Medical Center Foundation. These donations are used to purchase replacement technology and equipment, to update departments for patient comfort, and to provide staff training to ensure they are schooled in the most advanced procedures and practices. Cumulative donations are acceptable (i.e. memorial donations from family and friends adding up to $1,000). All donations are tax deductible and subsequently enhance services for future patients and their families.

Healing Garden Brick

The engraved brick is 4" x 8" and inscriptions can be up to three (3) lines of text. The character limit per line is approximately 18 characters, depending on the size of the individual letter and whether you prefer lines or names in bold print.

Your inscription is limited only by space and creativity. You might want a simple name, or perhaps a loved one's favorite saying, memory or line from a song.

Some examples of inscriptions that have been made are:

  • Take Time To Smell The Flowers
  • Courage, Love and Peace
  • In Honor Of (Message)
  • Love Has No End - The Crisp Family
  • In Memory Of (Message)
  • Sunshine on my shoulder makes me happy

The $1,000 donation is tax-deductible and can be paid over a three-year period. For more information, or if you'd like to purchase a brick, call the Foundation office at 410-553-8560.
