As part of our continued commitment to improve the health of our community, UM Baltimore Washington Medical Center is an active member of the Healthy Anne Arundel Coalition. This coalition was formed in December 2011 and is comprised of community partners and providers from the public sector, health care providers and payers, community-based partners, the business community and academic partners. The purpose of the coalition is to locally prioritize the State Health Improvement Plan (SHIP) launched in September 2011 by the State of Maryland's Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (DHMH) and to develop and implement actionable strategies to improve public health.
For Anne Arundel County, areas for improvement include: obesity prevention, cancer prevention, substance abuse prevention, mental health, access to dental care, sexual health, and housing and the environment.
