Pediatrics
Caring for children also means caring for their concerned parents.
Baltimore Washington Medical Center houses a 10-bed secure pediatric unit for children with illness and injuries. The unit features specialized care by a team of pediatric hospitalists and experienced pediatric certified nurses who are dedicated to making the hospitalization process as positive and stress-free as possible for patients and their parents. Through a two-way partnership between BWMC's pediatric hospitalists and the patient's pediatrician, patients receive treatment based on their personal medical history and have access to the latest technological advancements.
On the pediatric unit, children have access to a colorful playroom filled with books, puzzles, video games and toys. Parents are provided with one-on-one teaching regarding their child's care after discharge. For the comfort of both the child and the parent, one parent is allowed to spend the night with their child and liberal visiting hours are granted to family members.
As part of their teaching mission, the pediatric hospitalists supervise rotating third-year medical students for three-week periods from the University of Maryland School of Medicine.
