The University of Maryland Baltimore Washington Medical Center’s Auxiliary promotes and advances the welfare of UM BWMC. The Auxiliary sponsors many fundraising activities for UM BWMC throughout the year such as a jewelry sale, electronics sale, hospital scrubs sale, nuts sale, a purse sale, a spring bazaar, and a winter bazaar. The public is welcomed and encouraged to attend all of the fundraising events. The Auxiliary holds board meetings, manages the hospital's gift shop, and recognizes hospital volunteers who have committed many hours to volunteering through an annual Awards Luncheon. Members also serve throughout the hospital as volunteers in a variety of capacities.
UM BWMC's Volunteer Program is service-based and dedicates hours to most departments within the medical center. Opportunities are available for anyone 18 years of age and older. Duties range from filing, answering telephones, helping people find their way, greeting patients, visiting with patients, cleaning equipment, stocking supplies, registering people at community events, putting together informational packets for patients and families, filling snack and drink areas, providing items to patients (e.g. water, pillow, blanket), taking photos in workshops, assisting with slide shows, arranging tables and chairs for classes, retrieving wheelchairs, distributing wristbands, and more.
