University of Maryland Baltimore Washington Medical Center offers a variety of exercise classes to help improve your health no matter what your fitness level is. Join us for a fun way to work out and relieve stress. Please review the class descriptions provided below to find a class that meets your needs!

Beginning Barre Fusion
In just 55 minutes Barre Fusion will help you achieve a fun full body workout! Focusing on hips, thighs, seat, abdominals and arms, this low-impact technique protects your joints by avoiding any bouncing or jumping, yet creates long, lean muscles. This is a ballet- inspired class that incorporates elements of Pilates,Yoga, Dance and stretching all set to fun music! No experience necessary.
Beginning Tai Chi
This physical art form from China is characterized by slow and soft movements. It is the perfect physical activity for relaxation, gentle joint manipulation, balance improvement and stress reduction. Please wear comfortable clothing and a Ked style sneaker.
Yoga provides improved flexibility, strength, coordination and concentration by providing a means of reducing stress and relaxing the body and mind. Participants are asked to wear loose, comfortable clothing and to bring their own yoga mat. Prior yoga experience is not required.
This class combines yoga and Pilates to provide improved flexibility, strengthening of the abdominal core, coordination and concentration by providing a means of reducing stress and relaxing the body and mind. Participants are asked to wear loose, comfortable clothing and to bring their own yoga mat. Prior yoga experience is not required.
This fun, high-energy class incorporates yoga, boxing, dancing, Pilates, weight training and meditation for a full-body workout. Participants are encouraged to bring light hand and ankle weights and a yoga mat. Athletic footwear should be worn. All levels are welcome, but current participation in regular exercise is encouraged.
Floor, Core and More
This class is designed to strengthen abs, lower back and glutes and is done mainly on the floor to reduce impact on the joints. Participants should wear comfortable clothing and are encouraged to bring light hand and ankle weights and a yoga mat. No previous experience necessary.
This class presents yoga at a slower, more relaxed rate than traditional yoga. With more stretching and limited “up and down” exercises, Gentle Yoga is perfect for those who want to practice yoga at an easy pace.
Pilates provides improved flexibility, coordination and stamina by focusing on strengthening the abdominal core. Participants are asked to wear loose, comfortable clothing and to bring their own yoga mat. Prior Pilates experience is not required and all ability levels are welcome.
Prenatal yoga is specifically designed for the journey of pregnancy. Conducted in a calm, peaceful environment, yoga helps strengthen pelvic muscles, improve circulation, aid in digestion, exercise the spine and increase overall comfort. All trimesters welcome. Physician consent required.
A moderately paced yoga class working with yoga postures and breathing exercises to improve flexibility, strength, balance and concentration. Participants are asked to wear loose comfortable clothing and to bring their own yoga mat. Prior yoga experience is strongly recommended.
Students will flow through the yoga postures with an emphasis on how to move with the breath. Some poses will be held longer. Breathing and meditation techniques will also be included. Please bring your own mat and wear loose fitting clothing. Prior yoga experience is strongly recommended.
Yoga for Healthy Back and Core
This class offers gentle back stretching and simple core strengthening exercises. Learn proper body mechanics and relaxation techniques to release tension and stress.
Yoga for Stroke Patients
Yoga has been shown to increase strength and flexibility, improve core strength, balance, coordination, and posture, improve breathing and the cardiovascular system, increase bone strength, improve brain function, decrease stress, and lower blood pressure - all beneficial to continued recovery for stroke survivors. This class is recommended for any stroke survivor who has completed rehabilitation, regardless of level of ability. Physician consent is required and participants are asked to bring their own yoga mat. Yoga for Stroke Patients is ten weeks long and costs $60.
